Shake It Off!
Back first year College, I had a PE instructor who was so obsessed in teaching us Social Dance, and I mean Ballroom Dancing… It even got to the point na tinanong pa nya kami bakit daw pag binabalikan namin yung mga steps na tinuro nya last meeting eh hindi na raw namin kabisado kailangan daw aralin namin yung mga steps na tinuturo nya morning before we go to her class, na parang kasing importante at mas kumplikado pa sa Algebra at Trigonometry. Bilib na sana ako sa kanya kung hindi lang sya tumanggap ng tig-PHP 500.00 sa mga classmates ko na hindi nakapagpresent nung final performance dahil sa valid reasons instead na ire-schedule na lang ang sayaw nila.
Anyways… When I thought I wouldn’t never be dancing again, bukod sa mga presentation sa school – orgs tgisshing! I was wrong! Mantakin mo na sa kahit pala sa work eh madadala mo ang iyong mga presentation skills! Hindi lang sa pagdedeliver ng reports ha! I mean dance to entertain the crowd! Wow…
Hehe… pero hindi naman siguro lahat eh, nagpapasayaw ng ganito… last year nagsayaw din kami, representing the Batch 12 of Newly hired Cadet Engineers para sa tinatawag na Rewards and Recognition… this year akala ko eh manonood na lang kami ng performing newly hires, Lo and Behold, five days before the program I found my self, volunteered by my supervisor to join this Dance Presentation / Competition. Together with other performers from other groups… We are fifteen all in all in the Dance group, representing the Green Team, kilala ko naman yung mga kasama ko kahit pano, nameet somewhere sa work… Bukod sa mga ka-department ko mismo most of them I would say eh ka-acquaintance level palang…
For three days, we balanced our work over the practices… I guess ganun din ang ginawa ng ibang groups, yun lang I guess some other groups prepared long before the occasion nagpasadya pa ng costume eh! Siguro nagging perk nya especially day before the presentation eh yung halos wholeday na wala ka sa work, refreshing in a way yung nandun ka sa office pero hindi PC at E-mail ang kaharap mo…
Parang nag-e-exercise lang!
We also get to visit yung rooftop ng building namin, inaabot kasi yung ceiling pagnaggagawa kami ng human pyramids eh… so perfect venue yung rooftop. Hulaan mo kung sino yung photographer…
Bilib din ako sa mga teeners ngayon… pag performer, performer talaga… nakakatuwa lang isipin na ang mga nagturo sa mga nakalaban namin eh naging profession ang pagsasayaw one way or the other… ang nagturo sa amin ng ilang formation and steps eh, 1st year college pa lang… among the songs that we used are Kembot, Sexy Back and the finale Shake it Off, so explains why the title…
Kung sino pinaka-young looking sa kanila, sya yung nagturo sa amin… hehe, hindi kasama yung mukang isip bata ha!

This is also the first time na nagkameron ako ng costume na sponsored! Yung hindi galing sa bulsa ko yung pinambili! Hehe memorable indeed… ang saya meron pang lobo! Parang mag-e-exhibition ng mga dribbles para sa Milo best yung outfit namin neh?
Hmnn… pansin ko lang din, bakit kaya sa mga catering eh, madalas nang gamitin ang knife and fork against the popular spoon and fork? Is it because dinidiscourage ang seconds? Or nag-aaral na tayong maging Canadians?
The practice actually paid off good… kahit three days lang before the competition itself, hindi actually naging malaking isyu kung sino ang nanalo and natalo, we had so much fun! And sobrang maappreciate yung doing something quite extraordinary… extraordinary na yung magsayaw-sayaw paminsan-minsan hehe…
Ok ok… if you are so much with the results… naging 2nd place kami…
So ayun ang dawning na ating dancing career! Abangan ang aming dance group sa inyong baranggay sa nalalapit na fiesta or something…

Vacation Yey! 3
Thank God!
We were able to visit the island of Boracay, Aklan… ah yes… kung hindi rin lang sya company-covered, I doubt na makapunta kami dun without months of long planning, malamang puro anticipation lang hehe…
Hindi na masyadong marami ang tao sa island… since papatapos na ang summer season June 01 na eh, well wala akong point of comparison para dun, sabi lang din sa akin… at it’s peak, namumutiktik daw sa tao ang resorts as described by our officemate and semi-local Theis, “rubbing elbows” daw kahit sa beach…
This is the first time na nakasakay din ako ng airplane. Nothing biggie actually, hehe saya nung taking-off saka ng landing-down para kang nakasakay sa space shuttle weee… and you will get the new appreciation of the world below na karaniwan na makikita mo lang sa Google Earth
The flight only took 35minutes of our vacation… mabilis lang sya para ka lang bumisita sa kapit-bahay mo. First we landed at the Caticlan airport, there’s this even funny signage… hehe imagine kung meron kang bitbit na almost 5-8 kilo luggage and your short with cash… Surely not a happy thought…
After Caticlan we then took some 15-25 minutes boat ride from Caticlan to Boracay Island. Pagbaba ng Boracay we took a mini-jeepney ride from the port to Patio Pacific. The rooms in Patio Pacific are cool! Air-conditioned, Cable TV, King Size Beds, Clean Restrooms. Kumpleto rin ang resort sa mga amenities tulad ng Gym, Bar (na puro Jack-Daniels ang laman), Restaurant that serve tasty yummy meals at siemps ang Pool. Yey!
Ah yes… Patio Pacific has this place para makapagpa-cute…
Hindi ko nakuhanan ng pictures ang mga amenities and stuff, hindi ko naman na appreciate yung mga yun, not later that day, go agad tayo sa beach!
Not as surprising as have imagined though… papasok na nga kasi ang tag-ulan at dahil dun sabi ni semi-local/tour guide/guardian Theis eh nagiging malumot ang dagat at this time of year… Sabi rin nya na ito rin ang nagpapdalisay at pumupulbos sa white sands. Hindi ko alam kung bakit at pano at ano ang explanation pero yung nga raw yun…
That day we enjoyed our walk on the beach. Ang pagpapakapagod sa paglangoy sa beach then sa pool, we weren’t able to see the sunset nung first day… maghapon kasi kaming naglunoy sa pool.
Hulaan mo kung saan kami nagdinner… wala nun sa Manila… Nagdinner kami sa Andok’s Dine-in! Wwwwouuuu! Sobrang excited ako nun… kasi yun ang pinakamurang kainan sa Boracay… 5 minute – walk from Andok’s you can find a convenience store, which makes a decade long theory that whenever there’s a Litson Manok stall a Convenience store must be nearby more feasible… <*nods head>
Merong Night Life sa Bora… sa Club Paraw for example… merong din namang mga bar na ang cine-cater eh RNB, meron ding Hip-Hop at kung ano ano pa…Hindi ako masyadong mahilig sa Night Life, sa akin kasi ano ang binesa ng Club Paraw sa mga bar sa Malate bukod sa nakaupo ka sa mabuhangin na banig at over seeing ang dagat… kaya nung nagbrown-out sandali mas na-appreciate ko ang Boracay. Tahimik, alon lang ng tubig ang maririnig mo… mga barkadang nagkakantyawan, at ang mga taong nagrereklamong nawalan ng kuryente at lasing na mamang hindi makagulapay sa buhangin. Sayang di ko nakuhanan ng picture…
Umaga ng sumunod na araw… tuloy ang bakasyon... another fine thing that we are able to do the was snorkeling! Hehe… hindi ko na nadala ang camera ko nun, gitna ng dagat eh… its not the proper gear… We also visited the Puca Beach, sa kabilang parte ng island… walang lumot sa parte na yung pero hindi kasing pino ng buhangin sa lugar na may lumot ang buhangi… hmn…
After returning to the beach and taking a shower and eating a hefty lunch… tuloy ulit ang pagliliwaliw sa isla. We walked further along the shore…I can’t help but notice that commercialization of the Island… I guess that part can’t really be helped, business is business pa rin of course… so its quite a sight din na makita na meron din silang “mall“ sa Boracay, wittingly named as D*Mall! <*gasp> Niweys, ako nanaman ang official photographer… sheessh.
Meron din silang mga souvenir shops! Siemps mawawala ba naman yun… funny thing is souvenirs at the souvenir shops are the same souvenirs you would find if you are in a mall in Manila. May sindikato ata sa likod ng mga souvenirs na ito dahil makikita mo rin naman sila everywhere! bracelet, earrings, Lamp shades kahit ang sikat na “Barrel Man” eh meron din dun…
The same reason kung bakit ang paborito ko pa ring souvenir eh ang mga buko pie ng Laguna, Batangas at Cavite… dahil dun mo lang sila mabibili, I mean yung mga especial talaga ha… pero hindi rin meron na rin nun sa mga SM Malls eh…
Niweys…
We walked D*Mall, D*Palengke, and D*Talipapa almost all afternoon.
Later on we realized that the sun is almost setting, we rushed to the beach line… and we get to see another beautiful sunset… Sa trabaho kasi napakabihira na makakita ka ng sunset… especially sa Manila. Kaya to seldom behold a sunset can be quite a sight!
Parang ang lalim na symbol kasi sa akin ang sunset eh… kunyari serious person ako…
We get to rest earlier that night. Medyo napagod sa snorkeling at paghahanap ng sulit na souvenirs. After dinner… Natulog na lang din kami agad, dun ko naapreciate ang room amenities ng Patio, at sabay buntong hininga na uuwi na pala kami kinabukasan. Hayyy…
For the last event we kinabukasan… we tried tadahh! Banana Boat Ride! Wag nang iexpect na kinuhan ko ang mga pangyayari dun dahil sa gitna ito ulit ng dagat. Hehe, mas exciting sana ang Banana Boat ride kung mas game sa tauban ang mga kasama mo… total naka-life vest naman kayo eh, at wag kakalimutang kawayan ang mga nasasalubong na bangka at iba pang bangka! Para mas masaya! Hehe…
Few hours later matapos magbanlaw at last hour shopping we prepared our selves for the departure going home… kahit nakakapagod and all, it’s the best way to relieve stress and keep you’re mind off work revived na ulit pagbalik sa trabaho diba! Ayos!
So we better get our asses back to work mode. Tapos na ang bakasyon mga kids, something to look forward next year… yan eh kung magiging ok ulit ang performance this year. So better do our part! Wow how patriotic!

Unang Hirit
Minsan hindi ako naniniwala na ang kabastusan eh nasa isip lang daw ng audience at ang mga nagbibitaw ng green jokes are actually innocent and are not pertaining to anything...
Lahat daw eh puedeng maging bastos, sa isip ng audience... Issues on censorship can truly be eluding and can be an endless debate of wit, standards and morality...
Wala naman akong ibig sabihin dun, I just happen to see Eagle of Unang Hirit with a shirt he sure fits so well... saka wala naman syang ibig sabihin dun... hindi yun bastos... wehehe!

Vacation Yey! 2
Bukod sa swimming kasama ang aking mga kababata, nakuha ko pang makasama pa sa dalawang outings… One in Pondaquit, Zambales and the other one is in Boracay, (hindi ko pala alam kung sang probinsya ang Boracay!)
Niweys, what I enjoy most about trips are the site seeing part… pwera pa yung pagbababyahe…
I can live without the alcoholic drinks, the babe watch, and even the swimming it self. Basta ba guaranteed ang serene environment where you can search for inner peace and deeper appreciation of nature’s beauty (naks! Bigat….) Wag lang naming ipagkakait ang baong pagkain at inuming tubig, mahirap mag appreciate kung may iniinda ka sa tyan…
Unahin muna natin ang Pondaquit, Zambales
The first thing I was able to appreciate with our Zambales trip were the accommodating benches of Victory Liner in Monumento, Caloocan… how they keep you cozy because you have to wait for 4 hours for the 3 o’clock in the morning bus cause the 11 o’clock evening bus left you. Ang sarap humiga at makipagkwentuhan ng kung ano-anong kalokohan kasama na ang plano mo sa buhay at career. Wag mo nang masyadong indahin ang mga surot hehe kahit pagtulog eh possible.
Meron din silang 24 / 7 na mga canteen that can serve you tapsilog and short orders in a flash! Medyo overpriced lang ng konti pero kung di ka pa naghahapunan would you even care?
Hindi na ako nakakuha ng mga pictures and whatnots sa byahe… Inubos ata ng mga surot ang wisyo ko at ulirat… so nahimasmasan na lang ako at tadaaaah! Nasa beach na kami… hehe… at nakahanda na ang pagkain!
Unlike ng swimming sa Santiago Resort, merong baong digital camera ang friends natin… so hindi ko na pinicturan ang pagpapakita namin ng aming mga drop dead gorgeous body… I took the pictures that I actually came for…
The majestic Sunset… malayo pa talaga sya sa horizon kaya hindi pa talaga sya sunset… so ano tawag natin dito? Majestic Late Afternoon Sun? Hindi catchy…. Pero ang ganda diba?

So ayun na nga… ang ilan sa mga photos na naipon ko nung Zambales Trip… hmn… next naman yung sa Boracay… mas Soulful yun… yeba!

Ang sarap humiga at makipagkwentuhan ng kung ano-anong kalokohan kasama na ang plano mo sa buhay at career. Wag mo nang masyadong indahin ang mga surot hehe kahit pagtulog eh possible.
Meron din silang 24 / 7 na mga canteen that can serve you tapsilog and short orders in a flash! Medyo overpriced lang ng konti pero kung di ka pa naghahapunan would you even care?
Hindi na ako nakakuha ng mga pictures and whatnots sa byahe… Inubos ata ng mga surot ang wisyo ko at ulirat… so nahimasmasan na lang ako at tadaaaah! Nasa beach na kami… hehe… at nakahanda na ang pagkain!
Unlike ng swimming sa Santiago Resort, merong baong digital camera ang friends natin… so hindi ko na pinicturan ang pagpapakita namin ng aming mga drop dead gorgeous body… I took the pictures that I actually came for…
The majestic Sunset… malayo pa talaga sya sa horizon kaya hindi pa talaga sya sunset… so ano tawag natin dito? Majestic Late Afternoon Sun? Hindi catchy…. Pero ang ganda diba?

Vacation Yey!
Siguro sa part eng buhay ko kung saan ang aking Summer (April – May) eh nanatili pa ring busy eh first ko yun ngayong taon, uto ang first time. I can still imagine years back, ang mga summers ko eh… walang pinaggagawa kundi ang mag-stay sa bahay dahil sa mainit. May mga outings din naman, kasama ang barkada. Sa Jeds, Calumpit Bulacan, o kahit sa simpleng resort lang na me swimming pool malapit sa amin, tulad ng sa Villa Angelina. Or katulad ng last outing namin sa resort nila Oths, ah yes!Dry Swimming
Anyways, kahit may trabaho… at di ko naramdaman ang “walang ginagawa” na Summer, (at least nakakuha ako ng isang lingggong bakasyon) eh nakaattend ako ng tatlong outings! OO! Tatlo!

Aliw din sya eh… kahit maliit lang yung pool! At umulan at pinaahon kami dahil sa kumukulog, safety precautions sabi ng mga lifeguards..

Board Exams Part 2
So there…
I have actually prepared for the Board Exams of April 2004, that means I started with the reviews around November 2003. Maririnig mo ang sinasabi ng ilang reviewees about their life while the said preparation, its uber boring! Parang kailangan walang mangyaring malaki sayo for the next six months… review center, bahay, punta sa bahay ng reviewmate – palitan ng materials, manood ng tv or video sandali para di naman masaturate ang utak (in my case panonood ng Yu Gi Oh sa TV), at siempre ang aking “bread and butter” ang mag-tutor.
So t’wing may review session ganun ang takbo ng buhay ko, gigising ako around 5:30am, aalis ng bandang 6:30 darating sa review class ng 8:00, hanggang 12:00 nn tapos uuwi, darating sa bahay ng 2:00pm kung nakaidlip ako sa jeep, kakain lang at review na ulit, 4:30 mag hahanda naman para sa tutorial job, 5:00pm nandun na ako sa bahay nila Ate Janet, by 8:00, 9:00 or 10:00 uuwi na ako nun, depende kung may project ban a kailangan ko ding i-guide ng konti… I even wrote a science project once about candles with coconut oil, pero salamat sa Bato Balani… hindi ko na kinailangang i-compose… hehe… Tuloy pa rin ang review hanggang 12:00am or hanggang antukin, ganun ng ganun…
Pag weekends naman nandun ako sa bahay ng kaibigan kong si Oths, nagpapalitan ng manuals nagbabatuhan ng questions at encouragements, a companion with the same perspective about the board is sure is helpful… para na-bo-boost yung eagerness sa pagre-review. Ang stress reliever naming nun ni Oths eh paglalaro ng Yu Gi Oh cards, yung pirated lang ha! Yung tig-pipiso, kasama ang kanyang highschool at gradeschool na kapatid. Natawa pa nga sa amin yung tatay nya nun eh, nasa isang kwarto lang kasi kami… dudungaw sya makikita nya kaming tutok sa pagrereview, and then maya-maya nagsisigawan na kami dahil sa Yu Gi Oh, tapos serious ulit, tapos sigawan… Almost every night nagtatawagan din kami ni Oths, para ma-gauge kung nasan at kumusta na ang review ng bawat isa. No room for pretensions kung di ka nagreview dapat sabihin mo kung bakit para at least magagawa ka pa ring kunsensyahin ng ka-buddy mo…
We tried our best to follow the deadlines we have set among ourselves as well… Meron kaming mga calendars, nakapost doon kung anon a dapat ang re-reviewhin at dapat eh na review na… In a way effective din sya kasi gumugulong yung momentum at little successes na nami-meet mo yung deadlines.
Generally yun ang itinerary namin…
Nagparegister din pala kami ni Oths two or three months ata before the exam itself… Para maaga pa lang alam na namin sa mga sarili namin na wala na tong atrasan, alam namin na darating ang gabi before the exam at ang umaga ng exam mismo… malinaw sa akin yung umaga ng Board… Bumangon kami ni Oths mga 4:00am Nagbihis at nag-uniform, nakacomplete uniform ako nun, parang college boy… In a way, I want it to feel it for the last time… Si Mommy (Mother ni Oths) pa ang nagprepare ng sandwiches namin nun. Then there was that moment… Oths and I stood silent. We realized we are actually praying and we are praying for the same thing, I gave Oths two of my handmade pencils and he gave me two of his aswell, it was kinda solemn for the both of us…
Sa totoo lang, lumipas ang Board exams at yun lang ang masasabi ko dun, maliban sa part nung 2nd day… kung saan napagusapan namin na manood ng sine eh nauwi sa paguwi at pagtulog ng maaga…
Torture yun one week na paghihintay ng resulta ng board exams, the morning na I’m sure oras na ng paghuhukom… hindi ako makatulog, nakatingin lang ako sa kawalan. Nakatulog lang ako ng dalawang oras yata… ng nagising at nahimasmasan ako, karipas agad ako sa tindahan ng diaryo,
Eto na! Eto na talaga…
Pagkabayad ko, ang bilis kong ikinalat yung mga pahina ng diaryo, hinanap ang listahan! Napasuntok sa sahig! Yes! Nakasulat ang pangalan ko… Bago ako umalis humahangos din akong hinanap ang pangalan ni Oths, nakita ko middle name nya… “Igama” si Oths lang may ganung middle name, sabi ko sa sarili, tinanong pa ako ng tindera kung pasado ba, pero di ko na sya nasagot dahil lumilipad na ang paa ko pauwi… para ibalita ang news of the year! Hehe…
Bago ako umabot sa bahay, tinawagan ko pa si Mommy, walang kasing sarap ibalita na ang pinakamamahal nyang anak eh pasado na sa board… ang sarap magdeliver ng good news grabe!
Pagdating ko sa bahay after 5-10 minutes ko na in-anouce yung balita… black-out na agad ako… tulog na agad, I almost dreamt of my mother’s selfless joy over her son’s victory… ang sarap…
So yun ang drama ng Board Exams ko… It is as if naman yayaman ako upon having that license, but what is important, is that I know… pinagbusuhan ko sya ng panahon… at di ito nasayang…
My license is about to expire this year… halos palamuti lang sya sa wallet ko, pampatigas… pero whenever I take a good look, it reminds me that when you want something, you go for it… and do whatever it takes… no questions asked…

Board Exams (Part 1)
If you'll ask an engineering graduate a story that would constitute their idea of exciting, exhausting, depressing, inspiring, victory and defeat... Top of the mind they will tell you, its the board exams...
Ah yes the board exams...
Madami-dami ding courses ang dumadaan sa pagsasala ng board exams... Engineering, Accounting, Medicine, Education, Criminology, etc etc... Kada anim na buwan ang ECE board, April and November... Karaniwan ata talaga dalawang beses sa isang taon ang board exams ng kahit anong course...
Percentage-wise sa mga board exams wala akong alam na board na umabot na 50% ang passing rate, laging mas mababa sa kahalati... But you never get to appreciate the drama of all those who pass and fail sa exams... You only hear of new licensed professionals, or most promising top notchers who would rather choose to work abroad than here or maybe the humble bastards who on the otherhand pay their tribute to their school, teacher or evencountry... Right you are kanya-kanyang drama, but for me, i have deep respect to those gifted individuals who chose to help build the nation here, siemps kahit na dun sa mga normal peeps fueled by principles...

When i was still an undergrad, i have no plans or intention taking the board exams... Not until one of our "senior" took it, and actually made it...daming speculations na nabuo with
regards s pagpasa nya... Swerte lang daw madali yung exam, sakto na ung nareview nya ang mga lumabas, Deliberated lang daw sya - pasang awa, pero ang paborito kong rason nya eh dahil nagsikap talaga sya, nagpursige along the process...
From there, i realized... Its not a matter of intelligence, board exam is a matter of pride and perseverance, if you really want it and you have the discipline to actually strive for it...
Pagkagraduate ko ng college, may mga friends-batchmates ako na nagprepare agad para sa exams, graduate ng march, be licensed by november... The sooner the better. Wala akong means para magreview nun, wala na kasi akong resource... I gave self review a try, but somehow the method is not suited for me... Hindi naman ako prodigy, in a matter of 2-3 weeks im chapter, books even left behind...
From there i realized, i do need to enter a review school. Sabi ko, i'll have that means of paying for a review school kung magtatrabaho na agad ako.. Better than being a bum and better cards will possibly emerge...
Nandun ako sa bahay nun, around 9am, anime goodies sa tv, ng dumating ang kaibigan kong si joe anthony... He told me that his gradeschool and highschool nieces are in need of a tutor. I'm a bum and what the heck, free snacks wont hurt... Its later that day that i was told im going to get paid for the tutorial job! Php 2,000 a month, 2kids 6:00-8:30, monday to thursday! Compute-compute... I now have the resource to take the board by April! (2004)
Eto na! Destiny awaits!
